Some flyering done in Zone 4
Rak and I went down the west side of the High Street in zone 4 last tuesday evening. Given the time of day only cafes, bars and restaurants were open so we'll need to go back during the day at the weekend for the other shops. We probably won't have the chane to do this for at least another week so if anyone else is able to - please feel free to do so.
We still need someone to head up zone 5...
Any takers?
If we can't find anyone I suppose I can try and cover it myself but I'm already stretched a bit thin what with work and stuff :-/
Roger.
Zone 4
Hi there. David and I can take zone 4. Posters look good, Roger. Think collecting quotes and contact details from shopkeepers as we go around is a good idea. I can't make this Thursday, I'm afraid.
Thanks :-)
Howsabout maybe Friday? Can't do any earlier than that myself anyway.
zones
I'd personally prefer either 1 or 3, simply becuase i'm not as familiar with the other zones. Of course will go along with whatever though!!
OK, I'll put you down for
OK, I'll put you down for zone 1 then, thanks :-)
Zones and action plan
I'd be happy to take zone 3 as i live in that part. I've been writing up a leaflet which we're just formatting so then everyone will have something to hand to give out. Then shopkeepers etc will have the facts to give people. Do we need another meeting before really getting going on this? Or maybe better is if we get going handing out the posters and leaflets and get contact details. I think good ideas are
(1) local shopkeepers meeting
(2) Online petition

Lets get cracking until we
Lets get cracking until we can arrange another meeting, I think it will be good to have talked to some shopkeepers beforehand and every day counts. The Competition Comission are publishing the provisional findings of its inquiry into the UK grocery market enquiry this week and it's a good press opportunity if we can get things rolling by then.
I'll put you down for zone 3.
Zones
Unfortunately Zone 3 is best for us too because we know it and also know a few of the shopkeepers. We could do 4 or 5 but as we don't know any of the "hotspot" people like shopkeepers or cafe owners there, we'd probably be less effective there.
Are the leaflets ready yet? I agree that we probably need to meet again on Tuesday before getting going on this.

OK, contact Paul if
OK, contact Paul if you wan't to do zone 3. We still need people for zones 4 and 5 but as soon as the leaflets (paul and tom) and posters (me) are ready I'm going to message the main facebook group (+ related groups) asking for volunteers so hopefully we'll have several people available per area.
As I said to Paul, I think we need to get going ASAP. I agree we should have a meeting soon but let's get out there in the mean time. I'd like to have made a start and talked to some local business people first, after all it's all kind of about them and to me it seems a bit patronising to proceed without having made face to face contact with / invited them.
What we should do is set a date and a place for this next meeting, ideally somewhere that isn't (or isn't as overtly) a pub as Satchmo's as that might exclude some people. I was thinking downstairs at Bodrum or Z-bar? Anyone got any other suggestions?
As for when: Thursday?
letter
Posting here because it seems to be the most used and therefore looked at thread.
I think that we ought to have a standard letter on the website and facebook group that people can simply cut and paste and insert their own details to send to the relevant person at Tesco.
Just thinking that if no-one actually gets in touch with Tesco and complains about this then they're not gonna come down to SN and have a look for themselves!
We should all send a letter too and ask our housemates, partners, etc to do the same.
its fine raising awareness but unless we have some physical action aka, letters (e-mails are less effective) then we're doing nothing other than letting people know they're gonna have a lovely new tesco on their front door step!!
thoughts??
OK, good idea...
Every little helps as they say ;-) If you want to draft one up please add it to the site - it will go straight onto the front page. Would be good if you could include the relevant peoples names and addresses too.
You, and indeed all site members, should be able to create pages and stories on the site... just go to the 'create content' item on the menu. You can put the text straight in so anyone is able to copy and paste it and also attach it as, say, a word file.
In fact I could do with someone testing this out to make sure it actually works for people who are not me, so by all means go ahead.
:-)
Roger.
